The Lug Nuts: The Finale

Well Bloggers, it's been a long run. 2 cars and 3 gallons of paint later, we've arrived at the end of our project's course. We set 3 goals for this project; let me tell you about them. Our first goal was to learn about vehicle maintenence. To say that we have acquired an improved mechanical toolset would be to undercut how experienced I feel like we have become. We turned a car which barely ran into a beautiful pegasus of a vehicle which could traverse the Rocky Mountains. We learned everything without using the internet, and I am incredibly proud of us for doing so. Our second goal was to learn how to navigate the second hand market. We showed the van to several people and we bought a car from someone on Craigslist over the course of this project. Using these markets is quite difficult at first, but we learned quick. We learned that some people don't always follow through with deals. We also learned that not everybody is willing to make a deal, especially when they have shaky experiences while testing the product out. All in all, I feel like we've become much more comfortable in these markets. Our final goal was to improve our collaboration skills. Before this project, we were close. After the project, we were closer. That's kind of just how it goes for me and my friends, but I'd definitely say that this project has helped us get better at working together. We never tried to divde and conquer or anything of that matter. Rather, we would group up and collectively address one specific issue. This way, it would ensure that we all gained the same hands-on knowledge so we could apply it to something in the future. If you want to have fun with some friends, I definitely recommend this project. Many think that driving is one of the world's greatest liberties, and making a relatively undriveable vehicle drive like a twangy muscle car highlights that notion.

  1. Hi Jake, Wow, how satisfying it must be to have fixed up the cars with your own hands, and to have learned everything you need without even using the internet! That is an amazing irl project, and the internetlessness seems like a wise challenge after a year of zoom classes! Wendy
